Chief Edwin Ananas of Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation says Zak’s contribution reflects the kind of people they have leading their team. “Chad Zacharias has ensured we are satisfied with every project we collaborate on and it’s always exciting to work with his team and family,” he
said.
On Wednesday, Chief Ananas and six leaders from Treaty 6 territory met privately with His Majesty King Charles III, presenting him with a formal invitation—etched on birchbark—to attend the commemorative event.
“We thank Zak’s for their contribution as a Morning Star sponsor and look forward to all that is possible for the Treaty 6 Commemorative Event in August.”
Over the past several years, Zak’s has become a trusted partner to many First Nations, including:
- Beardy’s and Okemasis’ Cree Nation
- Flying Dust First Nation
- Lac La Ronge Indian Band
- Little Pine First Nation
- Lucky Man First Nation
- Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation
- Mistawasis Nehiyawak
- Montreal Lake Cree Nation
- Muskeg Lake Cree Nation
- Muskoday First Nation
- One Arrow First Nation
- Pelican Lake First Nation
- Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation
- Sturgeon Lake First Nation
- Thunderchild First Nation
- Witchekan Lake First Nation
Ongoing partnerships on projects within these communities have contributed to the construction of many new homes and public commercial facilities.
“We are deeply grateful to Zak’s Building Group for stepping forward as our first Morning Star Sponsor,” said Kevin Seesequasis, Director of Operations for the Treaty 6 150th Planning Committee.
“Their contribution is not only a financial investment – their sponsorship reflects the genuine partnership and goodwill they have shown to so many First Nation communities through years of collaboration,” Seesequasis said. “Zak’s has been helping build much more than infrastructure, they are helping to build a community that we can be proud of for generations to come.”
Zak’s contribution will directly support the four-day commemoration event featuring educational programming, ceremonies, cultural activities, performances, camping, and much more. It will offer Nations, families, and visitors opportunities to reflect on the last 150 years while looking
toward a strong future for the people of Treaty 6.
“In order to move forward into the future, we need to learn our true history,” said Treaty Commissioner Kathy Walker. “I thank Zak’s for investing in the truth of our shared Treaty history and therefore supporting a brighter future.
Zak’s Building Group says they will be observing and remembering 2026 in more ways than one. “In August, we are thrilled to contribute to the Treaty 6 – 150 years Commemoration, an event that we recognize as a stepping stone on the continuous path of Truth and Reconciliation we are all following,” said owner Chad Zacharias, P. Eng. “Our family-owned and operated organization is also celebrating 30 years in business.”
Zacharias says these anniversaries are significant milestones that prompt reflection on the organization’s journey and origins.
“When considering how we can make a meaningful impact in our surrounding communities, we are guided by our mission statement,” Zacharias explains. “We work hard to take care of our family and yours, by developing relationships and building our communities.”
Zacharias says Zak’s does a great job of designing and constructing exceptional projects with their partners, but many organizations in the industry also do great work. “What sets us apart is we develop meaningful relationships that carry on long past completion of a project,” he says.
“Everyone at Zak’s is excited to honour this shared moment in history with our friends and community partners in the significant Treaty 6 – 150 Year Commemoration. We are proud to be the Morning Star sponsor and look forward to seeing all the familiar faces this August.”
